ADVENTURE GUIDE

THE POSITION

The Zoo sauvage de St-Félicien, is looking for specialised English speaking guides for its unique activity: “Adventure in the land of caribou”. The adventure guide plays a crucial role in the activity and the organisation because he/she must deliver high quality ecological content in relation with the boreal ecosystem, answer participants’ questions and create a strong group experience.

Throughout the expedition, the guide must provide ecological information about local flora and fauna, lead a short canoe trip on a lake, use radio-tracking devices while insuring security of all participants. He/she is in charge of the group for the 26 hour tour and responsible for the clientele satisfaction. 
 
THE PROFILE

An applicant for this job must be enthusiastic, open minded, adaptable and a good communicator. He/she is knowledgeable with regards to plants, animals and their relations with their environment. Moreover, the person is able to make visitors aware of environmental and conservation issues in relations to sustainable development. He/she likes to work outside and under diverse climatic conditions. The tour is not greatly physically challenging but applicants must be in good shape as there is some hiking and canoeing involved.

THE TASKS

- Guide a group of 10-12 people
- Do a behind the scene tour of the zoo
- Inform visitors about boreal flora and fauna
- Cook a wood fire diner at the campsite
- Insure the security of the visitors at all time (night, canoe, trail)
- Use radio-tracking to find a moose
- Drive the visitors in a minibus  

QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in group animation
- Formation in biology, ecology or related domains
- Very good English and functional French
- Good general cultural knowledge
- Leadership, maturity, responsible and autonomy
- Easy going personality, diplomacy and quality of service
- Canoeing abilities
- Emergency training
- Minibus driver license (4B in Québec)
- Availability 7 days a week

Zoo employees work in a beautiful natural environment with a devoted and qualified team of naturalists, keepers, biologists, etc. The newly employed guide will benefit from a diverse and complete training in ecological interpretation, security with animals and visitor services. Schedule:  According to reservation, up to the end of October

Salary: 200$ per tour (maximum 3 per week); the rest of the week is devoted to drive a train while guiding visitors in our Nature trail park
