Diet : Herbivorous, feeding on browse, forbs and aquatic plants.

 

Reproduction : The female is sexually mature at 2 yearsand the male at 5 to 6 years. Mating occurs from mid-September to October. The 1-2 calves are born between late May and early June after a gestation period of 8 months, and are weaned after 4 months.

 

Longevity : Up to 20 years old in the wild and 27 years in captivity.

 

Predators : Gray wolves, grizzly bears, pumas and coyotes; young may also be taken by black bears and golden eagles.

 

Status : Not at risk.
