The Wild Zoo at St-Félicien is making a strong entry into the new season with its entirely new Centre for Conservation of Boreal Biodiversity (CCBB). The Centre is just one element in a new vocation that translates into our vision of providing visitors with a unique location for learning about, understanding and enjoying nature from an "ecozone" vantage point.

Since 2001, major investments have been made to extend and improve the Wild Zoo and transform it into a site that celebrates the wealth and diversity of Northern wildlife, a metamorphosis that reaches out over more than 485 hectares (1200 acres), and a catchments area of over 1000 animals.

But there is one more species we are looking forward to welcoming again this year – the Human Visitor, and we invite you most warmly to come and see, smell and touch all the aspects of the boreal biodiversity that we have lovingly developed and arranged for you in our wild Northern Eden.

The CCBB is now alive and vibrant, able and willing to offer the visitor the wealth of its knowledge and the variety of its collections thanks to a range of tools, such as the Wild Zoo with its nature trail park, the multi-functional BOREALIUM visitor centre, with its diversity of cinematographic and interpretative resources, and, of course, to prepare you beforehand and to bring back cherished memories later, you can access our interactive Website at www.borealie.org.

Touch the Borealie!

Boreal means North and, by definition, the Borealie is an area where in the coldest month of the year, the temperature is below -3 degrees Celsius. The Borealie embraces the tundra, the boreal forest, and the prairies. Each ecosystem is rich with its own plant life and has many hidden secrets. Animals of all species abound. Underwater, on the ground, in the air, the Centre for Conservation of Boreal Biodiversity invites you to Nature's spectacular "Cabaret", with its own music, its own decors and its own ever-changing costumes … something for everyone and for the child in everyone's heart!

But the Wild Zoo does more than entertain. It is also a place for learning about the diverse aspects of northern wildlife and plant life and flora. It is where you can discover how animals adapt to the rigors of winter, where you can learn to measure the importance of biological diversity in the boreal ecozone. This very agreeable (and quite painless!) educational component will help visitors better understand each species’ role in this fragile ecosystem of which we know so little... despite its being on our own doorstep! The CCBB offers you a magical, wild and unique setting where you can discover or rediscover this Northern Eden and the wealth of the Borealie.

The Borealium

Our new treasure is a vast building; right at the entrance to the Centre, dedicated to the discovery of the great northern spaces, its wildlife and plant life. This new centre constructed under the direction of Scéno-Plus (yes the same people who designed Céline Dion's Coliseum at Caesar's Palace!!) is a bustling, exciting place of where you are invited and encouraged to participate in Boreal interpretation activities. And where you can see some great interactive Giant Screen movies!

2005: there's always something new under the (Northern) sun

Nature lovers will now have the opportunity of making a day-and-a-half trip of Boreal discovery: trekking through the   woods, canoeing, a night under canvas in prospectors' tents and close encounters… with caribous. You need to make bookings for this activity.
