What do the experts say?

The CCBB is proud to be able to count on the cooperation of many scientists. In this section, you will hear what they have to say.

· Read the text by Cyrille Barrette, a full professor at Laval University and mammalogist, who is interested in the evolution of species through natural selection.

"Biodiversity: adaptation, accidents and mishaps. Two of the most spectacular phenomena one can find in nature are the extraordinary way in which species adapt to their environment and the extraordinary diversity of species…” (click here)

 · André Desrochers, ornithologist, professor at Laval University, explains the impact of habitat fragmentation on wildlife. A very contemporary subject!

"The fragmentation of wildlife habitats. Of all the dangers threatening Boreal biodiversity, the loss and modification of ecosystems is probably the most significant…”  (click here)

· Do the strange ecosystems we find in peatlands fascinate you? Monique Poulin from the department of Phytology at Laval University will make matters clearer for you.

“Peatland to protect. In the Borealie, the countryside is patterned by huge stretches that look like heathland or savanna. These are the peatlands, covering 8 to 12 million hectares (20 to 30 million acres) in Quebec…” (click here)

· Has the increase in grazing animals impacted their habitat? If so, which animals are concerned? Jean Huot, an ecologist specialized in the management of animal populations, answers these questions in the following text.

“The integrity of woodlands threatened by their cervidae”. For a number of years now, ecologists and woodland workers have noticed that the pressure of wild cervidae grazing has become a threat throughout the temperate forest in the Northern hemisphere and in a number of Boreal forests..."  · In order to better understand what is meant by climate change, you should read the following articles by Claude Villeneuve, an expert in the field who directs the UQAC Éco-consultancy program. They were published in the newspaper La Presse.
