Together to the top!

The background of the CCBB Foundation

  • June 29, 1981: setting up of the Fondation zoologique de St-Félicien.
  • September 23, 1981: name change to Fondation de l'Université de la nature à St-Félicien. This name, meaning “Foundation of the University of Nature of St-Félicien”, better expressed the determination of the Zoo to prepare itself for becoming the “Year 2000 Zoo”.
  • March 23, 1990: the name was changed once more for: the Fondation de la Société zoologique de St-Félicien.
  • May 22, 2001: a final name change translated the new philosophy by transforming a Zoological garden into a centre for conserving boreal biodiversity: the Fondation du Centre de conservation de la biodiversité boréale (CCBB).

The Centre for the Conservation of Boreal Biodiversity (CCBB) offers you a unique concept, that of animals living within their natural environment.

Here, visitors come into exceptionally close contact with wildlife, and enjoy a unique opportunity to observe and learn.

Here, visitors can almost rub shoulders with a huge number of species, close to 80 of which live together in their habitat.

Here, visitors have at their disposal a wide range of tools that allow them to better understand the lifestyle of the northern world, including a Website (borealie.org) and a research centre whose program of activities is planned out and overseen by a university scientific committee.

The current mission of the "Wild Zoo", the wildlife component of the CCBB, is to promote awareness, appreciation and conservation of the ecosystems, species, wildlife and plant life that characterize the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, Quebec and Canada as a whole. Its field of action covers the entire temperate Boreal zone up to the global rim of the Arctic Ocean.

A Foundation with a lot of good points !

The Foundation is a not-for-profit organization whose objective is to provide financial support for CCBB activities and projects.

The willingness to go that extra mile and to lead the field, so characteristic of the volunteer members of our Foundation, ensures activities, discoveries and experiences that are to be enjoyed nowhere else. Please help us to continue to innovate and to pass on to thousands of people the secrets of the Boreal environment.

Join our team and help us
